Western Conference Champs

Western Conference Champs

That is accurate! In fact, along with the Eastern Conference, the Western Conference is one of the two conferences that make up the NBA. There are 15 clubs in the Western Conference, and they are split up into the Northwest Division, the Pacific Division, and the Southwest Division.

As you indicated, the league's 30th club, the Charlotte Hornets (now known as the Charlotte Hornets), was added after the divisional alignment was established. This occurred prior to the commencement of the 2004–2005 NBA season. As a consequence, the New Orleans Pelicans (at the time, the New Orleans Hornets) were transferred from the Central Division of the Eastern Conference to the recently established Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

Although clubs often play more games against opponents from their own division than against teams from other divisions, the divisional alignment helps to establish a team's schedule. It also affects how teams are seeded in the playoffs because, even if their record isn't as excellent as other teams in the conference, division champions are assured one of the top four spots.
